This spring has been stunning and the campers we have seen already have been making the most of it. We have seen a big increase in bookings too. But fear not, with just 8 pitches here, you know the magic will not be lost. You might just have to book a little sooner to make sure you get the date and pitch you want.
Spring Update

Following a stunning display of blossom, it looks like we have had one of our trees succumb to blossom wilt and we may lose her. However, there is plenty of good news; the swallows are back in abundance, the 300 trees we have planted are doing well and the solar panels and new pressurised cylinder are preforming very well. We are heating the water for both the campsite and house purely from the electricity generated by the sun. We have generated over double what we have used this year how fantastic is that.

Firelight & Open Skies
We have been reflecting on the joy we see on our campers faces and the benefits of spending regular time outdoors. This sent us down a little rabbit hole of research…
There’s something ancient and deeply human about gathering under a wide, open sky. Something that speaks to the part of us that remembers stillness, connection, and the steady rhythm of nature, and the science agrees.

Studies from the University of Exeter and Stanford University have shown that spending time in green spaces significantly reduces anxiety and depression, improves mood, and even lowers blood pressure. Just two hours a week in nature has been found to enhance wellbeing (Nature, 2019). Being beneath open skies — especially at dawn or dusk — helps regulate our circadian rhythms and boosts serotonin levels, improving sleep and emotional balance.
And it’s not just nature itself — it’s community too. Sharing stories around a fire, something humans have done for over 400,000 years, has been shown to build trust, foster belonging, and even synchronise our heartbeats (University of Alabama, 2014). Campfires create a unique setting where people feel more connected, grounded, and open.
Weekly Campfires

So this summer, we’re embracing that ancient wisdom. Every Wednesday and Saturday evening during school holidays, we’ll be lighting the campfire and inviting you to join us. Bring a blanket, a mug of something warm, and your presence. There’s no agenda — just a space to gather, share, and be. If a story comes or a song, then all the better.
Whether you come to connect, reflect, or simply enjoy the firelight and stars, know you’ll be part of something timeless and magical, a word that is often used by our campers to describe Old Bidlake. Slow down, step outside, and remember what really matters.
Now obviously we have a vested interest in what we’re about to say but why not book several short breaks to reset and connect. We really do think being outside as much as possible is key to our living well.
We look forward to seeing you by the fire.
Much love
Simon & Emily
